In many rural communities across Zambia, climate change is no longer a distant concept, it is a daily reality. Erratic rainfall, prolonged dry spells, and declining soil fertility continue to affect how families grow food and sustain their livelihoods. It is within this context that Climate Resilient Agroecological Hubs (CRAH) were introduced within World Vision Zambia—not as another project, but as living spaces for RD learning, experimentation, and transformation.

The Permagarden Foundations Course offers a practical and accessible introduction to the Resilience Design Approach at the garden level. You’ll learn how to work with your environment–not against it–to grow more food, build soil health, and better manage water throughout the year.

We have just completed our 5th RD Trainer-of-Trainers in Palabek Refugee Settlement in Northern Uganda. Over two dynamic weeks, we certified 51 new trainers from seven countries and 22 organizations, including FAO, IOM, UNICEF, UNHCR, NRC, CARE, Caritas, Danish Refugee Council, DanChurchAid, Trees for the Future, and numerous community-based organizations. We are developing approaches for understanding the impacts of RD on key impact areas: biodiversity, soil health, and hydrology. Our research approach utilizes technologies that allow us to develop quantitative metrics at a range of spatial and temporal scales.

In recent years, Somalia has faced escalating climate shocks—from deadly droughts to catastrophic floods. The 2011 drought claimed 260,000 lives. The 2016–2017 drought caused widespread losses, and the prolonged 2020–2022 drought led to over 40,000 deaths. Then, in May 2023, unusually heavy rains and runoff from the Ethiopian highlands triggered one of the worst floods on record, displacing nearly one million people and devastating homes, farms, and infrastructure.
